Department of sport and youth affairs
Sport and Youth Problems division shall
- restoring sport traditions promote their spreading, ensure the purposeful use of sport constructions in Yerevan,
- organize and control the activity of sport institutions subordinated to the municipality,
- if necessary submit proposes regarding the expansion, reconstruction, liquidation of the sport construction and creating new ones, installing state orders in those institutions, control the process of paid services there,
- organize mass sports events dedicated to the citywide, state, national holidays,
- work out programs for holding international sport tournaments in Yerevan,
- promote the restoring and spreading of the national kinds of sports,
- organize the coordination and development of physical education in secondary schools, the control and attestation of paid groups and trainers, as well as promote the spreading of Olympic, oriental sports and healthy life style.

Summary of Activities of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs in 2025
Throughout 2025, the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs organized 11 international tournaments, bringing together approximately 1,415 athletes competing in volleyball, basketball, table tennis, judo, gymnastics, badminton, tennis, boxing, Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, and figure skating.
The department also hosted 10 city championships with the participation of 453 athletes, alongside six citywide mass events engaging 2,269 participants.
In February, the 2nd Pan-Armenian Winter Games were held in Jermuk, bringing together more than 1,340 delegates from 18 countries. The Yerevan team took first place.
To ensure the effective organization of the training, as well as the educational process, municipal sports schools were equipped with sports equipment meeting international standards. In total, 14 outdoor sports grounds were constructed in Yerevan.
In cooperation with the Football Federation of Armenia, eight 20x40 artificial turf football pitches compliant with FIFA standards were constructed. Within the framework of the program “Football in Schools,” street football championships were held in Yerevan, involving approximately 6,000 schoolchildren from grades 7 to 9.
Several sports events organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs were included in the official calendars of European sports associations.
A number of meetings were held with Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, heads of various international sports federations, and Alexander Ratner, President of the European Shooting Confederation. For the high-level organization of international boxing tournaments, Ioannis Filippatos, President of the European Boxing Confederation, presented Tigran Avinyan with a letter of appreciation and a commemorative gift.
In 2025, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction on the Olympic Reserve Children and Youth Gymnastics Sports School named after Albert Azaryan. Located adjacent to Hrazdan Stadium, the center is to be completed in November 2026.
Meanwhile, the design phase for the Multi-Disciplinary Combat Sports School for High Performance has concluded, and the project is currently undergoing a comprehensive expert review.
In 2026, the construction of a track and field sports school is planned in the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district. The project is currently in the design phase.
The department is also in discussions with the Tennis and Basketball Federations of Armenia to establish dedicated tennis and basketball academies.
Complex sports schools are also planned in the Ajapnyak and Nor Nork administrative districts. The project has been drafted and has passed both preliminary and comprehensive expert review, with construction slated to begin in 2026.
From 2022 to 2025, in cooperation with the Armenian Red Cross, first psychological support and first aid courses were conducted for the staff of community sports organizations.
