Abdominal retractors help surgeons keep the cavity open during surgeries. It has different various blades which help to maintain the desired position during surgery.
The new medical instrument is a present from the World Children’s Transplant Fund to the medical centre. It is provided not only for transplantations but also for prolonged complicated surgeries. Before having it assisting surgeries had to hold tissue expanders by hand for hours. Head of Pediatric Breast Surgery Division of “Surb Astvatsamayr” MC David Dallakyan told the details.

The World Children’s Transplant Fund was created to save children’s lives and to increase possibilities for transplantations.

“The founder of the fund Mark Kroeker, getting acquainted with doctor Dallakyan in the USA, wanted to know what needs the hospital had, and having learnt that there is no retractor arranged everything and here we brought it”, informed the member of WCTF Board Louise Mardirosian Gill.

According to the head of “Surb Astvatsamayr” medical centre Nikolay Dallakyan, the clinic annually has 11-12 thousand patients and more than a half of them need surgery. And this medical instrument looking just like a plaything, is vital during surgery.

This expensive instrument manufactured in the USA is the only one in Armenia. In case of need it can be given to other clinics.
Due to technical re-equipment and refresher trainings of narrow pediatric surgeons, the number of exclusive surgeries which used to be performed only abroad is increasing in the medical centre.

“We are going to help Armenia and this clinic every year. Our children are our future, and it is not an obligation for us, we do it with love”, stressed Louise Mardirosian Gill.

The medical centre collaborates with various organization and thanks to it each new achievement is a way to give kids chances to live, to play, to smile.
