Street after Rafael Lemkin in Yerevan
The solemn ceremony of naming the street in the capital after the eminent lawyer, the author of the term “Genocide” Rafael Lemkin. Yerevan Deputy Mayor Sergey Harutyunyan, the RA Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ashot Hovakimyan, the participants of the Third Global Forum “Against the Crime of Genocide” being held in Yerevan, guests were present at the ceremony. The participants attached particular importance to the contribution of Rafael Lemkin to voicing and recognition of the problem of the Armenian Genocide as well as to accepting the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide so naming a street in Yerevan after him is a special honouring of the distinguished person.
The Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General for the Prevention of Genocide Adama Dieng in his turn expressed hope that different municipalities of worldwide will follow this initiative.
The unveiling of the board with the name of the street was done by Yerevan Deputy Mayor and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Armenia.
