Deputy Mayor Levon Hovhannisyan meets representatives of European Investment Bank

Yerevan Deputy Mayor Levon Hovhannisyan had a meeting with the delegation led by the head of European Investment Bank Division for Loan Operations, Enlargement and EU Neighbourhood Rafal Rybacki. Current activities were discussed during the meeting.
The Deputy Mayor stressed that Yerevan highly appreciates the successful cooperation with the bank in the implementation of such programs as the underground reconstruction, energy efficiency increase of public buildings, seismic fortification and others.
Levon Hovhannisyan outlined that due to successful cooperation with the EIB in Yerevan Metro reconstruction, which is one of the most essential components of urban transport system, the city now has a significant progress. Prolongation of the drainage tunnel and restoration activities in the tunnels are going to be completed providing safe organization of passengers’ transportation. Currently, the first stage of Yerevan Energy Efficiency program is under implementation. The construction has been over in nine preschools, and they have been put into operation with maximally comfortable conditions for kids. In five preschools the process will be over this year, and tenders for 156 preschools reconstruction will be announced soon afterwards.
The second stage of Yerevan Energy Efficiency Program started in cooperation with the bank which stipulates design activities in 32 preschools and 6 health centres within the loan agreement. The program has social and environmental significance. It contributes to the improvement of facilities and comforts in public buildings whereby decreasing energy and natural gas consumption decrease, and reduction of CO2 emissions throughout the year. The Deputy Mayor outlined that the active cooperation between Yerevan Municipality and European Investment Bank will be continued in the direction of installation of modern financial tools for investment and development programs.     
The head of EIB Division for Loan Operations, Enlargement and EU Neighbourshood Rafal Rybacki appreciated the cooperation with Yerevan, stressing that due to joint projects the level of human life is improved. The parties also discussed the possibilities of joint projects in solid waste management, “smart city” and “green” public transport spheres.
