A new draft decision of the Council of Elders was put into operation to provide full installation of the unified ticket system of public transport in Yerevan. It is planned to have one-time or multiple use tickets, daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly tickets.
“With this change our transport system doesn’t become self-satisfied. Anyway, additional financing will be required. This project is aimed at providing varied attitude to different passengers”, informed Yerevan Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan during the press-conference.
The problem of the main concern is whether the fares will increase or not. The Deputy Mayor outlined that there will be changes in fares. However, there will also be privileges for different groups – pensioners, students and others.
There will be several means of payment: cards, paper tickets with QR-code, e-tickets. They will get activated after the first use and will be valid within the due period.
The fares will change depending on the type of ticket. For example, 1-day ticket which includes 8 trips will cost 110 drams for each trip in case of an e-ticket and 112,5 drams for the paper ticket.
“The project also provides discounts for getting the ticket via the application of the company which will win the tender, which is also justified as physical carriers are more expensive. The goal is to bring everything to the digital field, which is more accountable and visible”, said Grigoryan.
Tickets for the buses commuting to “Zvartnots” airport will have a higher price.
This autumn there will be 171  8,6-meter buses, which will significantly improve the sphere and reduce intervals.
The city authorities are sure that with the installation of the new ticket system the shadow turnover caused by the fact of paying fares in cash will disappear. Before that the Municipality is open for discussions and suggestions.
Transport reforms are a complex and lengthy process.
