New solutions in city life: “Energy City” hackathon has been held
12 hours to create a new idea. Young software developers, engineers and specialists of other spheres and scholars tried their skills in “Energy City” hackathon. The initiative of Yerevan Municipality was fulfilled within the frames of the EU Sustainable Energy Week.
“The hackathon makes it possible for young people to participate in the solution of the city problems. The teams offered the best solutions will get assistance to develop their ideas and use them in the city”, stressed Yerevan Deputy Mayor Sergey Nersesyan.
“Today, the Municipality is successfully implementing the “EU4Yerevan:Solar Community” program, the program pre-schools renovation which are aimed at energy efficiency increase, development of energy saving and renewable energy sphere. Energy and climate change caused problems to many countries which we can overcome together finding new solutions. In this regard the programs of sustainable energy development are very important”, marked the International Aid / Cooperation Officer of EU Delegation to Armenia Mr Andrea Baggioli.
Green solutions in the city, “green transport”, energy efficiency, use of renewable energy, waste management and information technologies are the tools for “green” economy development. The participants divided into teams worked on these issues to offer best and innovative solutions of improvements.
During the hackathon, leading specialists of relevant spheres shared their knowledge and experience with the participants.
The results were summarized at about midnight. The jury decided that the “Best solution” nomination winner is the team of American University of Armenia. This team worked out a project which gives 3 solutions to overcome climate challenges, to reduce air pollution and to relieve traffic in the city.
“Best innovative solution” was offered by the team of National Polytechnic University of Armenia.
Within the frames of “Energy Week” a number of events will be held at schools as well.
