Continuous Monitoring at the Nubarashen Landfill: Major Risks were Significantly Mitigated

11.03.2026

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan visited the Nubarashen landfill to review the extensive work carried out in just a few months.
To tighten oversight and ensure compliance with safety regulations, cameras and barrier gates were installed in 2025 at the instruction of the Mayor. The entire site has been fully fenced, the guard post was modernized, a new outdoor lighting system was installed, and approximately 1,400 linear meters of water pipelines were laid.
Access is now strictly regulated for all vehicles entering and exiting the landfill.
Each day, around 150 truckloads of soil are brought to the landfill to cover the waste. These preventive measures will minimize the risk of fire outbreaks.
“These steps give us the time needed to proceed with the construction of the new waste processing plant. These are the minimum measures that should have been taken but were neglected for decades,” stated Mayor Tigran Avinyan.
