"Our city needs people who are friends of Yerevan and books": Mayor Tigran Avinyan

06.09.2024

On September 6-8, Yerevan will be immersed in reading. The 7th Yerevan International Book Festival will bring together book lovers, readers and publishers.
For the second year in a row, the Yerevan Municipality has become the main sponsor of the festival. The founder of the festival is the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
Mayor Tigran Avinyan expressed confidence that during these three days, Yerevan residents and guests of the city will have every opportunity to enjoy the book festival.
"Our city needs people who are friends of Yerevan and books. Mostly, they are the same people. A person who understands the value of a book is one who can take care of his city, yard, building and, of course, be in harmony and agreement with the people surrounding him. Only those who appreciate the benefits of a book can develop the city and fill it with life. In this regard, I am very glad that the festival is another opportunity to emphasize the inseparable bond between books and our beloved city,” the Mayor said.
Yerevan Municipality implements various programs aimed at popularization of books and reading. About 40 million drams have been disbursed from the community budget to purchase books for city libraries.
32 events are planned within the framework of the 7th Yerevan International Book Festival. Among the events are a book fair with a mandatory discount of 20-40%, which will be organized in the arcade of the National Gallery of Armenia and the History Museum of Armenia, a literary competition, theatrical performances and various other events. All events are free.
