The issues related to ensuring equal rights of people with disabilities and their maximal involvement in public life were discussed at the meeting of the Yerevan city commission dealing with sectoral problems. The agenda involved already implemented projects and the issues under consideration together with systemic solutions.
"Yerevan Municipality, emphasizing and always keeping the issues of people with disabilities in the center of attention, will continue to implement various programs to make Yerevan more inclusive and accessible," said Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, who chaired the session.
The projects fulfilled in 2023 and the ones anticipated for 2024 in the mentioned sphere were discussed during the meeting.
The bus fleet being modernized by the public transport reform project is fully adapted for people with disabilities. Тhe process of installing special elevators in Yerevan's underpasses continues. Тhis year, the construction of around 450 ramps is planned in the capital. By the way, the technical tasks set clear requirements for the ramps to be comfortable and available for use by different groups. The initiatives are also carried out in cultural, educational, sports and social spheres.
During the meeting, the interested public organizations in their turn presented the sectoral problems that still need to be solved. They will also become a partner and supporter of the city in finding solutions to the rooted problems.
