Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan together with the Mayor of Antony, France Jean-Yves Senant and the President of Yerkrapah Voluntary Union Manvel Grigoryan was present at the solemn opening of the monument to the victims of Artsakh war in Davtashen administrative district. The monument is placed near the monument to the victims of the Great Patriotic War, the surrounding area of which is 520 sq m and has been completely improved and turned into a recreation zone within the frames of annual programs of Yerevan Municipality. The honour of opening was given to Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, the YVU President Manvel Grigoryan and to the head of Davtashen district Ruslan Baghdasaryan. In his speech addressed to those present Mayor Taron Margaryan noted that by evaluation of such places patriotism should be instilled in the younger generation.
“Today another memorial has been opened in the symbolic place. As you know the memorial of the victims of the Great Patriotic War has been placed here since 1972. Last year we initiated the well-arrangement of the surrounding area, and I think that it was the right decision to place the memorial to the heroes of present days here.Hundreds of residents of Davtashen took part in the Artsakh war and many of them became heroes. And this memorial will commemorate all our heroes of the battle. It will also preserve the ties between generations, and every visitor can feel proud of the heroic sons of our people”, said the Mayor.
The mayor of Antony Jean-Yves Senant in his turn emphasized the warm welcome and treatment he felt from the very day of his visiting Yerevan.
“Today numerous Armenians live in Antony today and they have their important contribution to the development of the city. The Armenian community of Antony is united and carries out an important mission in the issue of preservation, spreading of Armenian culture and handing down the traditions to generations. I am sure that the cooperation established between Yerevan and Antony was expected by them and it will play an important role”, said the Mayor of Antony.
During the event the head of Davtashen district Ruslan Baghdasaryan and the Mayor of Antony Jean-Yves Senant signed the Armenian version of the Protocol of Sisterhood between Davtashen district and Antony, according to which the bilateral interaction will develop and expand. Then Yerevan Mayor together with his colleague from Antony planted symbolic fir trees in the areas surrounding the memorial.
