Energy efficient lighting systems in Yerevan

A pilot project of the four-year program “Green urban lighting” is starting in Yerevan. It is aimed at modernization of the system of city lighting, introduction of energy saving technologies, efficiency increase of energy efficient lighting systems and reduction of greenhouse gas emission.
“Green urban lighting” is a joint project of the Municipality of Yerevan, the Armenian office of the UN Development Program and Global Environment Facility (UNDP/GEF) and other structures. Before starting the technical realization of the program the employees of “Yerkaghluys” CJSC get a three-day training. The three-day seminar is convened by the specialist of the company which distributes LED energy saving lamps, Andrey Dyuretich.
“The initial program starts in Isakov avenue and Tairov street. The Municipality of Yerevan jointly with the UNDP intends to expand the program and include parks and streets as well. As a result we will have energy saving system, save money on energy consumption and technical maintenance and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These aspects are among the most important points in “The covenant of Mayors” which Yerevan joined in 2014”, said the head of the Department of Development and Investment Programs of the Municipality of Yerevan Armen Harutyunyan.
The technical specialist Andrey Dyuretich presented the details of the program and pointed out that the energy saving systems which are to be installed in a few days are effective and simple in use. The pilot project of the four-year program “Green urban lighting” starts after the training in Isakov avenue where the system of lighting is to be replaced by the modern system.
