The Development of Kond Is Being Considered Under a Public–Private–Community Partnership Model
Today, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, accompanied by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan, and Chairman of the Urban Development Committee Yeghiazar Vardanyan, visited the Kond district, met with residents, and reviewed the existing problems and proposed solutions on site.
Under the urban redevelopment concept for Kond, which was discussed during a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on June 26, the project's main principles are to preserve the area's historical and cultural heritage, improve residents' living conditions, and modernize engineering and transport infrastructure. Additionally, the plan aims to establish an economically viable development model, enhance the area's investment attractiveness, and promote tourism.
The total area of the Kond district is 16.0 hectares, with the project intervention area covering 10.0 hectares. The district is home to four monuments of national significance included in the State Register of Immovable Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Republic of Armenia, as well as eight newly identified local monuments — primarily residential buildings.
A public–private–community partnership model is being proposed for the redevelopment of Kond.
International best practices were taken into account when developing the concept, particularly the example of the redevelopment of the historic Plaka neighborhood in Athens. That project focused on preserving the historic environment, expanding pedestrian zones, supporting small businesses, and revitalizing local cultural life.
The project will be implemented in phases.
