"Back and Forth with Kiko" Exhibition Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Prominent Istanbul-Armenian Poet Zahrad

09.12.2024

In the "Hay Art" Center, an exhibition titled "Back and Forth with Kiko" has opened, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the renowned Istanbul-Armenian poet Zahrad. This exhibition was organized at the initiative of Yerevan Municipality.
Zahrad (Zareh Yaldizciyan) is one of the most unique writers of contemporary Western Armenian language literature. His books have been published in Armenia (1978, 2004, 2007), but Armenian readers are not sufficiently familiar with these works.
The centenary is a great opportunity to explore Zahrad's poetic world, which has complex emotional and reflective connotations. Zahrad created a character who is essentially himself. This character is Kiko, often seen in his poems. Kiko represents his biography, intertwined with scenes, people, and everyday life of his birthplace, Istanbul.
The exhibition features drawings by artist and comic book author Levon Gyulhasyan and various graphic works by the author from different years, attempting to bring readers closer to the world Zahrad created. The concept of the exhibition was developed and implemented by the "Factum" Documentary Center with the support of the "Actual Art" Cultural Organization.
The exhibition will be open at the "Hay Art" Center from December 6 to 16, 2024.
