By the initiative of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan this is the second year running the parents of the servicemen residing in Yerevan and doing their military service in frontier units have the opportunity to visit their sons. This year the parents of about 1000 fixed period servicemen are to be sent to the units at the RA south-eastern border, to Tavush and Syunik marzes. Before the buses started Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan came to wish them a pleasant journey. He walked about the buses, familiarized himself with the conditions. Talking to the parents the Mayor assured that the Municipality of Yerevan is always ready to support and assist the servicemen from Yerevan in the issue of doing their military service with honour. Attaching importance to this initiative of social significance the parents in their turn expressed gratitude to Taron Margaryan for the support and special attitude. The persons in charge reported to the Mayor that all necessary arrangements had been made. It was also noted that the vehicles of the Road Police are to accompany the comfortable buses along the whole way and there are also doctors among the escorting staff. Taking into account the gratitude words received from parents after the previous visit, and the positive response to the initiative in general, Mayor Taron Margaryan noted that such actions will be of durative character, more frequent and including more people. «Such visits are becoming traditional. This initiative arose during my meetings with the parents of servicemen. They suggested creating such an opportunity and we carried out a special program according to which those who apply have the chance to visit their sons at least twice a year. Every time we try to include more parents so this time about 1000 parents from all the administrative districts of the capital are going to visit their sons and familiarize themselves with the conditions in which servicemen do their service. In a nutshell, they will make sure on spot that there all necessary conditions for normal service in our army. In general, the role and significance of the army is important for everyone and due to such initiatives we express our attitude to our soldiers, to appreciate their service and assure that the authorities of their native city are always next to them», said Taron Margaryan. The Mayor also thanked the RA Ministry of Defence for supporting the program and arranging the meetings in the units. The buses set off to the south-east borders on May 16, late in the evening from the area of the City Hall, and the buses moving to Tavush and Syunik started on May 17, early in the morning.
