Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan participates in re-opening of preschool N36 renovated within energy efficiency program
The first of 15 preschools to be renovated within Yerevan Energy Efficiency Program has been put into operation. The preschool has never been renovated before. Now all modern conveniences are provided for kids. Head of EU Delegation in Armenia Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin, representatives of other partner organizations together with Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan were present at the opening ceremony.
Total cost of the project is 15 million euro. It is financed from the European Investment Bank, the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership Fund (E5P), Green Climate Fund and Yerevan community budget.
“We have 14 more preschools where construction is going on within this program. During the meeting with our partners we discussed the issues related to continuity of this program. All arrangements have been made and I believe, this year we will be able to announce tenders for new preschools”, noted Hrachya Sargsyan.
The European Investment Bank Senior Loan Officer Stephanie Guihard-Brand informed that they are going to carry out programs not only in preschools but in other public buildings such as policlinics as well.
The UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Natia Natsvlishvili stressed that the kindergarten is so nice both inside and outside that kids would be happy to attend it.
The program provided installation of energy efficiency equipment, photovoltaic solar panels, LED lamps, replacement of windows and doors with new ones, thermal insulation of walls due to which energy costs of public buildings and CO2 emissions will decrease.
Head of EU Delegation in Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin expressed her opinion about the cooperation with Yerevan Municipality considering it to be effective. She added that their goal is to ensure proper conditions for kids in preschools. They care a lot about the environmental problems and the challenges caused by climate change, so they would like to see the city governance sphere to be more environmentally oriented and look forward to “green” buses in Yerevan.
“We plan to complete overhauling of at least 50% of preschools in 2023. With this program we want take steps to install solar panels and water heaters in all kindergartens no matter is they are renovated or not. This way the utility costs will be reduced and more convenient conditions will be provided for children. I am sure that joining our efforts we will have the opportunity to implement lots of other program”, stressed the Mayor.
Yerevan Energy Efficiency Program also pays particular attention to seismic fortification of buildings. The preschool N36 is now provided with energy efficient and safe conditions for approximately 260 kids.
