Mental Health Awareness Month: "Emotional Support Hotline" Pilot Program Launched with Support from Yerevan Municipality
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, observed annually in May, the Yerevan Municipality, with the involvement of its Department of Children and Social Protection, has partnered with the "Mental Health Awareness Initiative" NGO to launch a pilot program titled the Emotional Support Hotline.
This initiative seeks to raise public awareness about mental health, psychological challenges, and the available treatment and support services.
The importance of this initiative:
• Breaking the Stigma: Many people still feel ashamed or reluctant to talk about their mental health. This month encourages open dialogue and helps break the silence.
• Awareness and Guidance: The program seeks to inform individuals about the early signs of psychological or mental health issues in themselves and their relatives.
• Support and Accessibility: Particular attention is given to available support options, such as the hotline, free psychological consultations, and awareness-raising events, to ensure accessibility.
Mental Health Awareness Month plays a paramount role in promoting public understanding of mental health. Through this initiative, we aim to raise awareness, combat stigma, and encourage people to take care of their mental well-being.
As part of this effort, the Yerevan Municipality has placed seven informational posters across six metro stations to promote the newly launched Emotional Support Hotline. This service offers residents a safe and confidential space to discuss mental health concerns and receive professional assistance from trained specialists.
This pilot program and public awareness initiative mark a significant step toward normalizing open dialogue on mental health issues and reinforcing the message that mental well-being is an integral part of overall health.
