In accordance with the tradition the International Day of Museums is marked in Yerevan on May 18, and on May 21 “European museum night action” will be held on May 21. On these days the citizens and guests of the capital will be given the opportunity to visit the museums of the capital free of charge.

This year the theme of the actions is “Museums and cultural landscapes” and the events will be supported by the municipal museums of Yerevan: Yerevan History museum, historical and archaeological reserve-museum “Erebuni”, Modern Art Museum, Karen Demirchyan museum and Fridtjof Nansen museum.
It should be noted that the municipal museums are going to present their team project called “Yerevan Municipality museums in the cultural landscape of Erebuni”. A photo-exhibition «Old and new Yerevan» will be held at Yerevan History Museum, a documentary video about the annual celebration of “Erebuni-Yerevan” will be shown at Karen Demirchyan museum. The personal exhibition of Nazik Aslanyan will be held at Modern Art Museum, and an unforgettable night walk about Erebuni Fortress will be organized as well. All these events will take place on May 21. “Museum night 2016” event is held at the suggestion of one of the oldest international organizations in the field of cultural heritage preservation- the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the RA Ministry of Culture.
The program was started in 2005 with the support of the ICOM, UNESCO and European Council. The aim of this day is to increase the role of museums in social and cultural life of the society. This year 112 museums of Armenia are taking part in the spring action. The participating museums will work on May 18 throughout the day and on May 21 from 18.00 till midnight. Admission is free for all visitors.
