The 8th Yerevan International Book Festival Announces a Literary Competition

The 8th Yerevan International Book Festival is pleased to announce a literary competition in the following categories:
•    Prose
•    Dramaturgy 
•    Children’s and Youth Literature
•    Poetry

Citizens of the Republic of Armenia aged 18 or older are eligible to participate. All submissions must be written in Armenian.
One winner will be selected in each category. Each winner will receive a monetary prize of 500,000 AMD (taxes included).
Authors who have previously received awards at this festival are not eligible to apply in the same category again. Submitted works must be unpublished and not previously shared in any form (including media, social platforms, or public reading events). Each author may submit an application in only one category.

Submission Requirements:
“Prose” nomination
•    2 short stories, or
•    2 essays, or
•    An excerpt from a novel or novella (minimum 4,000; maximum 4,500 words). A separate synopsis of up to 400 words must be included, clearly stating the word count of the excerpt.

“Dramaturgy” nomination 
•    1 play

“Children’s and Youth Literature” nomination
•    2 fairy tales, or
•    2 short stories, or
•    2 illustrated stories, or
•    10 poems, or
•    An excerpt from a novel or short story (minimum 4,000; maximum 4,500 words). A separate synopsis of up to 400 words must be included, clearly stating the word count of the excerpt.

“Poetry” nomination
•    10 poems

Submissions will be evaluated anonymously by a professional jury. 
Any application containing direct or indirect identifying information (e.g., the author’s name or references revealing the author’s identity) will not be considered. If any identifying attempt is discovered during the jury review, the application will be rejected.

Evaluation Criteria:
“Prose” nomination: Text development, language and style, plot structure, relevance, and innovative-experimental value.
“Dramaturgy” nomination: Form and content, structure, language and style, relevance, and innovative-experimental value.
“Children’s and Youth Literature” nomination: Engaging and well-developed plot, relevance to target audience, educational value, structure, clarity, and style.
“Poetry” nomination: Text development, language and style, emotional impact, relevance, and innovative-experimental value.

All entries must be submitted in a single “Word” document to info@evnbookfest.com. The file must not include the author’s name or pseudonym. In the email’s subject line, include the author’s name and the competition category (e.g., Hovhannes Grigoryan, “Poetry” nomination). Attach a recent portrait photo and provide a contact phone number.

The deadline for submission is July 15, 2025 (inclusive).
Applications that do not comply with the above-mentioned requirements will not be considered.
