Rewards to Best Sportsmen, Sportswomen and Coaches of Yerevan
For the second year in a row, Yerevan Municipality rewards the best sportsmen, sportswomen and their coaches of the year.
10 best sportsmen and sportswomen residing in Yerevan, who achieved high results at the world and Europe championships, as well as at the Olympiads in 2023, have been rewarded with the incentive certificates of 3 million drams. Their coaches were rewarded with 1 million drams each.
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, the Head of the RA Prime Minister’s Staff Arayik Harutyunyan, First Deputy Mayor Armen Pambukhchyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Karen Giloyan and the head of Yerevan Municipality Department of Sport and Youth Affairs Armen Makvetsyan were present at the event organized in the City Hall.
10 leading young athletes of Yerevan representing Greco-Roman and Free Style Wrestling, Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Shooting, Boxing and Sambo were rewarded as well. Total prize fund made 50 million drams.
Congratulating the athletes, the Mayor expressed confidence in higher achievements in upcoming years. Mayor Avinyan also outlined that following the Government’s example, the Municipality has rewarded 10 best athletes of the year for the second year in a row to appreciate their efforts. He stressed that they not only uphold the honour of their country in international tournaments but also serve as a model for the young.
In his speech Karen Giloyan outlined that this year Armenian athlete got 445 medals in various international competitions and this result is 40% higher than the previous year. The RA Government and the city authorities will carry on contributing to encouragement of Armenian athletes.
For the significant contribution to the sphere of sport and many years of the activities aimed at sport development, the Distinguished Sport Figure Harutyun Yavryan has been awarded with the title of the “Honorary Sport Figure of Yerevan”.
For the contribution into Greco-Roman Wrestling development, efficient coaching activity and preparation of champions and prize awardees of the world, Europe, Olympic competitions, the RA Distinguished Coach Hamlet Hovhannisyan was awarded with the title of the “Honorary Figure of Physical Culture and Sport of Yerevan”.
For the significant achievements and contribution to Greco-Roman Wrestling, the World Champion, RA Honorary Master of Sport Vaghinak Galustyan was awarded with “Erebuni-Yerevan 2800” memorial medal.
