“No one should be ignored, left without care and support, or feel alone.” — Tigran Avinyan
World Social Work Day was marked at Yerevan Municipality with a panel discussion titled “Social Work as a Shared Commitment.” In his welcoming remarks, Mayor Tigran Avinyan emphasized that social protection remains a priority for the Yerevan Municipality. Continuous efforts are being made to expand social assistance programs and make them more accessible, particularly for the elderly, children, people with disabilities, and families in difficult life circumstances.
“Social work is reflected in the daily lives of individuals. It is the support that often plays a crucial role in helping a person overcome a difficult stage in life, giving them the opportunity and strength to move forward. Today, the world faces numerous challenges, including poverty, inequality, as well as problems of different vulnerable groups. It is in this sphere that human empathy and responsibility are most crucial. In Yerevan, no one should ever be ignored, left without care and support or feel alone. Cooperation with international partners also plays a key role in this work. Your experience and support help us organize our work more effectively and achieve tangible results. However, the most important component of this system is the people: those who work in this field every single day and have an influence on the lives of others. I would like to extend my gratitude to all social workers for their dedication, patience, and compassionate approach. I am confident that together we can enhance the social protection system, making Yerevan a more caring and people-centered city,” noted the mayor.
On the occasion of the World Social Work Day, several employees of the Yerevan Municipality and staff members from the city’s administrative districts were awarded the “Erebuni–Yerevan 2800th Anniversary” commemorative medals, certificates of honor, and letters of appreciation for their significant contribution to the development of the social sector of the Yerevan community.
As part of the panel discussions, industry experts and representatives spoke about the role of social work and explored opportunities for its further development.
