Replacement of 500 elevators has begun in Yerevan: almost half of city's elevators will have been replaced with new ones
This year, 500 elevators will be replaced in Yerevan. The process is carried out in two stages. The addresses were selected taking into account the wear and tear of the elevators. Most of the elevators in the city's apartment buildings have served residents for more than 4 decades.
"Yerevan Municipality has been implementing an elevator replacement program for the sixth year in a row. Starting from 2019, including this year, the number of elevators replaced in the capital will reach 2051. Thus, we can state that we have replaced almost half of the city's elevator facilities. Considering that the elevators are shared property, we are implementing a project aimed at alleviating the social burden of residents and ensuring the safety of citizens," emphasizes Levon Hovhannisyan, Deputy Mayor of Yerevan.
"At the moment, replacement has begun at 97 addresses at once. 400 units of Belarusian manufacture and 100 units of Russian-made equipment are being installed. The service life is about 25 years," says Kamo Badanyan, head of the Yerevan City Hall's public utilities department.
40 working days are allocated for replacing each elevator. Before being put into operation, each elevator will undergo a special check. The new elevators will be adapted for people with disabilities.
Citizens are required to use and preserve elevators carefully since they are their common property.
