Yerevan to Become a HeartSafe City
The community, in collaboration with HENAR and Philips foundations, and with the support of the Ministries of Health and Internal Affairs, the Armenian Association of Cardiologists and the Ambulance Service, has launched a program that will improve emergency medical response and increase survival in sudden cardiac arrest.
The initiative will include educational programs aimed at raising awareness of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and making volunteer training available. Automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) will also be installed throughout the small centre of Yerevan. The project will also incorporate new technologies to strengthen the “Chain of survival”. The innovative approach can increase survival rates from the current 5% to an expected 30% or more.
Signing of the agreement marked the transformation of Yerevan into a HeartSafe city. An open registration of volunteers was announced simultaneously with the launch of the project. Anyone can attend the free 4-hour training sessions, which will provide volunteers with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to cardiac emergencies and to effectively use defibrillators.
