CCTV cameras to be installed in Yerevan kindergartens
Cameras will be installed in Yerevan municipal kindergartens. This is done primarily to protect children. Yerevan Municipality is implementing a project to ensure more controlled activities of kindergartens.
"Unfortunately, recent events prove that it is essential. Within the first stage, cameras will be installed in 50 kindergartens. In the future, they are planned to be installed in all 162 kindergartens. The procurement process will begin in the coming days," says Margarit Khachatryan, head of the General Education Department of Yerevan Municipality.
About 2,000 cameras will be installed in 50 preschools. First of all, the cameras will be installed in already renovated preschool institutions. Children's daily routine will be available online only to persons in charge. Parents will not have the opportunity of daily view.
As Margarit Khachatryan notes, surveillance will be centralized. The department staff and director of the kindergarten will have the opportunity to monitor, as directors of preschools carry out primary control ensuring the confidentiality of personal data.
Camera recordings can be saved for a certain period of time, for the purpose of viewing and clarifying the situation in controversial cases. Local officials assure that the video surveillance system will not disrupt the educational process.
"Cameras or any other surveillance tool cannot interfere with the teacher's activities. We hope that this will also serve to study successful experience in our kindergartens, and it is also an opportunity to quickly respond to undesirable phenomena," says Khachatryan. The video surveillance system will be put into operation from the new academic year. The launch is scheduled for October.
