On the event of International Day of Theatre, March 27, the annual awards of “Artavazd” was held at the National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet after Al. Spendiaryan. Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan, the RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Vahram Dumanyan, the Chief of Staff of the RA Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan, figures of drama art, guests were present at the event. This important cultural event is held under the patronage of Yerevan Municipality. Congratulating those present on the professional holiday Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan noted that this day is another occasion to evaluate the role, contribution, and endless devotion of those who engaged in drama art, their significance in development of Armenian culture.

“One could hardly exaggerate the role of theatre in our cultural life, and Yerevan Municipality appreciate the significance of theatre in Yerevan’s development. Thus, the city authorities always stand by all theatrical companies. I’d like to assert that Yerevan Municipality will always support the initiatives aimed at creation of art and culture values. We do our best to ensure comfortable environment in theatres and technical maintenance. Renovations and technical modernization are going on in a number of theatres” ,stressed the Mayor.

This year several new nominations were added to the main list of the awards. Special prizes were awarded as well.
This year, the “Artavazd” awards, held for the 21st time, was dedicated to the 100th foundation anniversary of the National Academic Theatre after G. Sundukyan.
