Within the frames of the forum “Yerevan and Saint Petersburg expand the cooperation opportunities” which is held within the scope of the visit of the Saint Petersburg delegation headed by the Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgi Poltavchenko to Yerevan, a round table was organized the theme of which was “Saint Petersburg-Yerevan: cooperation opportunities in the sphere of tourism”.
The issues related to mutual promotion of the tourism potential of Saint Petersburg, working out of joint tourist projects, social advertisement exchange between the two cities, as well as the innovations in tourism industry and organization of events as a means of tourists attraction were discussed during the meeting in which the persons in charge of corresponding spheres of the two cities were taking part, the representatives of the committee for tourism development of Saint Petersburg, of specialized offices and tourist agencies, directors of museums.
The head of the division of tourism of the Municipality of Yerevan, event moderator Maria Baraghamyan greeted the participants of the round table and stressed that the 5-year program of cooperation signed between the two cities will soon give opportunities for the realization of new projects.
The activities aimed at tourism development were realized.
“Within the frames of cooperation with partner and sister cities Yerevan attaches particular importance to the sphere of tourism and in this regard we consider our cooperation especially in the recent years quite effective. Two years ago, during our visit to Saint Petersburg within the delegation headed by Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, certain agreements were achieved. Today there are all preconditions for further strengthening of relationship. Yerevan is a modern city and I am sure that in spite of competition, for Petersburg tourists it is a very interesting and profitable tourist direction”, noted Maria Baraghamyan.
The chairman of the Committee for tourism development of Saint Petersburg Inna Shalito in her turn attaching importance to holding meetings in such a format and speaking about tourists perspectives of the northern capital of the RF stressed that they consider Yerevan a primary and preferable direction for tourists.
Within the frames of the round table the presentation of the project of a new tourist route of Saint Petersburg was also held.
The head of the coordination division of the excursion agency “The city tourist-information bureau” Anna Keller noted that the project represents a thematic bus and pedestrian excursion around historical and cultural sights which are connected with eminent Armenian figures who once lived in Saint Petersburg and left their trace in Russian culture.
Summarizing the results of the round table the participants appreciated the effectiveness of the event from the point of view of experience exchange and realization of tourism programs.
By the initiative of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Yerevan the participants of the meeting had a tour round the capital on “Yerevan City Tour” buses, visited a number of centers which represent the tourism potential of Yerevan in the best way.
