The mechanisms of climate change adaptation in Yerevan and development of relevant programs were discussed during the regular meeting in the City Hall. The projects realized in various countries with the support of the “Green Climate Fund” (GCF) and possibilities of financing new projects were presented as well. In particular, the Readiness Support programme of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change carried out in association with the RA Ministry of Nature Protection and the financial support of the Fund was presented.
The First Deputy Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan, the heads of structural subdivisions of the Municipality took part in the meeting.
“Yerevan Municipality attaches importance to the implementation of ecological initiatives. Loads of problems have accumulated in the city for many years and the environment problems are among them. We undertook the obligation to solve these problems within a few years. A new transport network is being developed today, and the problem of reduction of emissions is to be considered. With the attraction of credit funds, we will also solve the problem of a new landfill construction. Therefore, we must plan the city development with effective and financially feasible ideas”, stressed Hrachya Sargsyan.
“Consecoard” consulting company plans to develop “The Earth Project” one of the main beneficiaries of which is Yerevan. The director of the company Vram Tadevosyan presenting the main policy and goals of the “Green Climate Fund” stressed that Yerevan can try to relieve and solve the priority problems of the city by means of grants and soft loans.
An agreement to hold an additional discussion was made during the meeting to determine the priorities of Yerevan which will be presented as programme proposals.
