Yerevan intends to participate in “Open Government Partnership” initiative. The aim is to make the system of government more transparent, accountable, innovative and participative via teamwork with representatives of civil society.
The First Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Levon Hovhannisyan, the coordinator of the “OGP-Armenia” initiative Lilia Afrikyan, the head of the local self-governance policy of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Ashot Giloyan, representatives of various public bodies interested in the program, residents of Yerevan participated in the meeting-discussion held in the City Hall of Yerevan.
Due to the program the sphere will be improved and become society-oriented, the awareness of the activities of government will increase and the participation of society in public life will grow.

“During the recent period, Yerevan Municipality takes various steps to make the activity of the city authorities as open for public as possible. This initiative creates a new important dialogue to strengthen the citizen-community collaboration, which is one of our main purposes. I believe that taking part in the Local OGP within the scope of the Open Government Partnership initiative we will have an active, mutually beneficial and maximally transparent cooperation”, stressed Levon Hovhannisyan.
The participants of the meeting discussed and attached importance to the participation of Yerevan Municipality and expressed willingness to take part in revelation of the main problems and working out the programs.

The “OGP-Armenia” coordinator Lilia Afrikyan gave more details: the RA Government implemented several action plans in the spheres of local self-governance, information freedom and availability, social accessibility, health care, education, procurement.
It should be noted that the partnership was founded in 2011. 56 local self-governance bodies joined the program. In near future Yerevan will present its membership application and a working group will be formed and definite programs will be worked out afterwards.
