Traffic Management Center to be Established in Yerevan
The steady increase in the number of vehicles in Yerevan, the rapid growth of road traffic volumes, the ongoing reform of the public transport system, and the need to enhance traffic safety in the urban environment all require a more united and coordinated approach to traffic management, monitoring, and planning.
Given these challenges, a proposal to establish the Yerevan Traffic Management Center was submitted to the Council of Elders for consideration today. The draft decision was approved.
Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan, who presented the project, noted that, within the framework of the ongoing reforms in the public transport sector, along with the procurement of new fleet units in 2026, the introduction of the unified ticketing system, upgrades to the GPS platform, the expansion of the public transport video-surveillance system, and other related measures, the municipality has outlined two major directions.
Specifically, the city authorities will take steps to establish and launch a centralized dispatching system and to deploy smart traffic management technologies. These include smart traffic lights, comprehensive traffic-flow analysis, and contemporary technological solutions.
The new specialized company will be established to replace the “YEREVANTRANS” company. The latter will be dissolved.
