Ongoing Elevators Replacement Program
Elevators in Yerevan blocks of flats have an operation period of 25 years. However, many of them have been in use for more than four decades. In 2023, Yerevan Municipality carry on the program of elevators replacement in increased volumes. According to the head of Communal Service Department of Yerevan Municipality Arsen Karoyan, there are three contracts the first of which anticipates replacement of 100 elevators, the second one covers replacement of 400 elevators and the third one – 200 lifts, The first program has already started and many of the lifts are in operation.
The installation of one lift takes 40 days, and to complete the work before the deadline a separate group is working in each entrance. The new elevators are comfortable, safe and adapted for wheelchairs and people with vision problems.
Within a year after the installation, technical maintenance of elevators is provided by the contractor. Current maintenance is provided by the elevator services of condominiums. The new elevators are also energy saving and reduce energy consumption by 50%.
Dwellers should make proper use of the elevators and treat them with care. Before being put into operation the lifts will pass the obligatory expert test.
The head of Communal Services Department informed that there are 3198 elevators to be replaced in the city. It should be noted that elevators are joint property of residents, and the community has no legislative obligation to replace the lifts. However, considering safety, comfort and social burden of residents the community undertook the issue.
The program of replacement of elevators is financed from the city budget, and this year the government showed great support as well.
