The IUCN National Committee in Armenia Launched

An official meeting marking the launch of the Armenian National Committee of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) was held at Yerevan Municipality on June 24. The event brought together diplomatic missions, government institutions, and IUCN representatives to strengthen cooperation in support of nature protection in Armenia. Yerevan Municipality has been an IUCN member since 2025, reaffirming its commitment not only to the preservation of nature and biodiversity but also to sustainable urban development. 
The Mayor of Yerevan, Tigran Avinyan, welcomed attendees and highlighted the establishment of the IUCN National Committee as a vital platform for advancing new environmental initiatives. He reaffirmed that Yerevan Municipality remains committed to fostering a greener, more resilient, and more vibrant urban environment.
Remarks were also delivered by Sirarpi Haykazyan, Acting Head of the Nature Protection Department at Yerevan Municipality; Oliver Avramoski, Director of the IUCN Regional Office for Eastern Europe, South Caucasus, and Central Asia (ECARO); Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia; and Ruben Khachatryan, Founder and Executive Director of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC).  
The event concluded with the official signing of the National Committee's “Vision and Mission” document.
