The first official celebration of "Erebuni-Yerevan" was held in October of 1968: the 2750th anniversary of our capital was celebrated. The jubilee celebrations lasted about a week. Lots of various and interesting measures were taken: new books representing the history of Yerevan were published, new films reflecting the everyday life of Yerevan were launched, exhibitions were opened, new songs about Yerevan were created, various jubilee souvenirs were issues which still remind us of that luxurious celebration.
Among beautiful events were The Flowers’ Holiday, The Song Festival, during which a choir of 2750 singers performed the hymn "Erebuni-Yerevan" for the first time. Another outstanding event on those days was the opening of the Museum of Yerevan foundation at the foot of Arin Berd hill. The street adjacent to the Museum was called "Erebuni", a park with 2750 fountains was opened, a memorial drinking water fountain was place in Republic square, the "Erebuni" carpet was designed, 2750 trees were planted at the foot of Arin Berd hill and the festive measures were completed in the Republican stadium with a great concert program.
The concerts of art groups were going on for some days on the stages placed in the squares, parks, streets and gardens of the capital.
This holiday which has become traditional is becoming more various, more popular year after year. Together with traditional celebrations new ones appeared: The Friendсhip Holiday, The Newly-weds Holiday, The Housewarming Holiday, The Poetry Holiday, The Working Glory Holiday, The Young Yerevan Residents Holiday, carnivals, festivals, national games, sport competitions, "Golden Autumn" annual performance and so on. Many residents of Yerevan are witnesses of those unforgettable days and celebrations.
